Mark DeSaulnier, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 10th district, has been vocal about his thoughts on President Trump’s immigration policies. His recent series of tweets underscores his concerns about their constitutionality and his commitment to upholding the rule of law. DeSaulnier, who has served in various legislative roles since the mid-1990s, detailed his stance during interviews following a town hall.
On April 18, 2025, DeSaulnier tweeted about a conversation with KRON, criticizing Trump’s immigration policy as unconstitutional. He specifically condemned a proposal involving American citizens being imprisoned in El Salvador. DeSaulnier stressed that “in the US, we don’t have a king, and the rule of law should reign supreme.”
In a subsequent tweet on the same day, DeSaulnier detailed his interaction with NBC Bay Area, where he reiterated his opposition to Trump’s immigration policies. He personalized his congressional duty by committing to “continue to hold the President accountable and uphold the rule of law.”
The next day, DeSaulnier expressed the concerns of his constituents regarding the Trump Administration, noting their “deep concern and anger.” He invited public participation in an upcoming in-person town hall on April 23 in Lafayette, aiming to foster dialogues on these pressing issues.
Mark DeSaulnier was elected to the U.S. Congress in 2015, succeeding George Miller. He has also served the California State Assembly, the California Senate, and on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. Born in 1952 in Lowell, Massachusetts, DeSaulnier resides in Concord, California, and is a College of the Holy Cross alumnus.
