Mark DeSaulnier, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 10th district since 2015, posted a series of statements on April 29, 2026, addressing issues related to higher education, voting rights, and U.S. military spending.
During a Higher Education Subcommittee hearing, DeSaulnier highlighted the importance of fostering inclusive campus environments while upholding constitutional rights. On April 29, he wrote: “At today’s @EdWorkforceDems Higher Education Subcommittee hearing, I outlined the need to create campus environments that are diverse, inclusive, and safe, while simultaneously protecting First Amendment free speech rights.”
Later that day, DeSaulnier commented on a recent Supreme Court decision impacting federal voting protections. He stated: “The Supreme Court just gutted what was left of the Voting Rights Act, making it harder for Americans to exercise their constitutional right to vote. I join my @TheBlackCaucus colleagues in demanding an immediate vote on the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to protect the right of all”.
In a third post from April 29, DeSaulnier addressed the financial and human costs associated with recent U.S. military actions in Iran. He said: “Today the Pentagon confirmed that in less than 2 months Trump’s war in Iran has already cost the American taxpayers $25 billion. That’s money that could have helped lower healthcare costs for millions of Americans. Instead, we’ve lost 14 American servicemembers, driven gas prices”.
DeSaulnier has served in Congress since replacing George Miller in 2015 and previously held roles in both chambers of California’s state legislature as well as local government positions.[source] The congressman was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1952 and currently resides in Concord.[source] He earned his bachelor’s degree from College of the Holy Cross in 1974.[source]
