Mark DeSaulnier addresses regulatory independence, education policy, and labor rights on social media

Mark DeSaulnier, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 10th district since 2015, has recently used his social media platform to address a range of issues including federal regulatory independence, local education priorities, and labor rights.

On August 29, 2025, DeSaulnier criticized the President’s decision to remove a member from a federal regulatory agency. In his post he stated: “Congress created independent agencies like the Surface Transportation Board to keep politics out of regulation and ensure experts were making relevant decisions about safety. As a senior member of @TransportDems, I am incensed that the President would fire a sitting member of” (August 29, 2025).

Later that day, DeSaulnier discussed his engagement with educational leaders in Contra Costa County. He wrote: “Yesterday I joined superintendents from across Contra Costa County to discuss education priorities in CA-10. I appreciate to opportunity to connect directly with district leaders about the Trump Administration’s efforts to dismantle public education and my work to fight back.” (August 29, 2025).

On September 1, 2025—Labor Day—DeSaulnier acknowledged workers’ historical contributions and reaffirmed his support for labor advocacy in Congress. He posted: “On Labor Day we honor the legacy and bravery of workers throughout history who fought for dignity on the job, including the 8-hour workday and safer working conditions. Together with my @Labor_Caucus colleagues, I’m advocating on behalf of workers every day in Congress and I am” (September 1, 2025).

DeSaulnier has represented California’s 10th District since succeeding George Miller in 2015. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of both chambers of the California State Legislature as well as the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1952 and currently residing in Concord at age 71, DeSaulnier graduated from College of the Holy Cross with a BA in 1974.
