Mark DeSaulnier, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 10th district since 2015, addressed constituents on social media about Social Security and environmental policy in a series of posts dated August 14, 2025.

In his first post, DeSaulnier emphasized the significance of Social Security for residents in his district: “There are more than 130,000 Social Security recipients in CA-10. 90 years after FDR signed Social Security into law, I am dedicated to working to protect your hard-earned benefits for years to come against attacks from Republicans and the Trump Administration.” (August 14, 2025).

Later that day, he drew a distinction between party approaches to Social Security: “For 90 years Social Security has provided a lifeline to seniors and people with disabilities. But Republicans’ and Democrats’ plans for the program and those who rely on it could not be more different.

DeSaulnier also highlighted California’s role in environmental leadership: “California has a history of leading the way for the rest of the country when it comes to innovative, commonsense policies that improve the lives of Americans. Our widespread adoption of EV and alternative fuel vehicles is no exception. I introduced legislation recently to” (August 14, 2025).

DeSaulnier succeeded George Miller as representative of California’s 10th District in Congress in 2015. He previously served on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors from 1994 to 2006, was a member of the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2008, and then served in the California Senate until his election to Congress.
He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1952 and currently resides in Concord.
DeSaulnier earned his BA from College of the Holy Cross in 1974.
