Mark DeSaulnier, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 10th district since 2015, posted a series of statements on September 2, 2025, addressing concerns over aviation safety, public health leadership, and labor rights.
In a tweet from the evening of September 2, DeSaulnier referenced recent incidents at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), stating: “Incidents like the one at SFO last night and the near-miss there in 2017 are reminders that aviation safety reform is a pressing need. I will continue working to hold the FAA accountable so that American people have a safe and efficient travel experience.” He highlighted ongoing efforts to improve oversight of the Federal Aviation Administration.
Shortly after, DeSaulnier addressed public health concerns with criticism directed at RFK: “RFK is dismantling our public health infrastructure, putting every American at risk. It’s past time for him to go and I call on him to resign.”
He also commented on federal labor policy in relation to Labor Day celebrations by the White House: “It’s ironic to see the White House post about Labor Day while simultaneously stripping more than 445,000 federal employees of their union protections. You don’t get to claim you support working Americans while carrying out the largest act of union busting in US history.”
DeSaulnier has been active in public service for decades. Before joining Congress in 2015 as George Miller’s successor, he served on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors from 1994 to 2006, in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2008, and then in the California Senate until his election to Congress. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1952 and currently residing in Concord, DeSaulnier graduated from College of the Holy Cross with a BA in 1974.
