Mark DeSaulnier, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 10th district since 2015, has been vocal on social media regarding recent legislative actions by House Republicans. His comments focus on the potential impact of proposed health care and budgetary changes.
On May 20, 2025, DeSaulnier expressed his concerns about a health care plan put forth by House Republicans. He stated that “House Republicans know how unpopular their plan to take health care away from millions of Americans is, so they are trying to ram it through Congress in the dead of the night.” He assured constituents that House Democrats would continue opposing this bill.
The following day, May 21, 2025, DeSaulnier criticized the Republican budget proposal in another tweet. He described it as “reprehensible,” arguing that it cuts essential programs like Medicaid and SNAP to fund tax reductions for the ultrawealthy while increasing the national deficit. He highlighted that Medicaid provides health care for over 20% of Americans.
Later on May 21, DeSaulnier cited an analysis from nonpartisan experts at the Congressional Budget Office. According to him, these experts confirmed that “the Republicans’ budget bill will only benefit the ultrawealthy and will pay for those gains by kicking MILLIONS of low-income Americans off of their health” coverage.
Mark DeSaulnier has had a long career in public service. Before joining Congress in 2015, he served in various capacities within California’s state government and local administration. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1952 and currently residing in Concord, he graduated from College of the Holy Cross with a BA in 1974.
