Mark DeSaulnier, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 10th district since 2015, shared a series of posts on social media this week criticizing the Trump Administration’s spending priorities and actions regarding federal assistance programs.
On October 30, 2025, DeSaulnier posted: “President Trump’s priorities:
1. Send $40 billion bailout to Argentina
2. Build a $250 million ballroom
Meanwhile, he is refusing to use already approved funds for SNAP to feed 42 million hungry Americans. So much for America First.”
The following day, he reported on his recent activities in Washington D.C., writing on October 31, 2025: “This week in DC I joined fellow @TransportDems in sitting down with Building Trades unions to discuss the impacts of the government shutdown and the Administration’s threats to their projects.”
Later that same day, DeSaulnier highlighted a legal development related to food assistance funding: ” Big win: A federal judge ruled today that the Trump Administration must release more than $5.5 billion in contingency funds for food assistance and that refusing to do so will have ‘irreparable harm’ on American communities.”
DeSaulnier has represented California’s 10th District in Congress since succeeding George Miller in 2015. Before his time in Congress, he served in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2008 and the California Senate from 2008 to 2015. Earlier roles include membership on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors from 1994 to 2006. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1952, DeSaulnier currently resides in Concord and graduated with a BA from College of the Holy Cross in 1974.
