Mark DeSaulnier, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 10th district, has expressed concerns regarding recent policies enacted by the Trump Administration through a series of tweets. These tweets cover topics ranging from budget cuts to international aid and economic impacts.
On July 8, 2025, DeSaulnier criticized a recently signed budget bill by President Trump. He stated that the legislation is “reckless and cruel” and warned it would negatively affect various aspects such as health care, electricity bills, and college costs for millions of Americans. He announced his intention to host a town hall meeting on Zoom on July 10 at 4 p.m. to discuss these issues further (“It’s been just days since President Trump signed a reckless and cruel budget bill into law…”).
In another tweet dated July 9, 2025, DeSaulnier highlighted the efficiency of USAID in preventing over 90 million deaths worldwide while constituting only 0.6% of total federal spending. He raised concerns about the potential consequences of the Trump Administration’s decision to reduce funding for this program (“USAID represented a fraction of a percent of total federal spending – 0.6% to be exact…”).
Later that day, DeSaulnier commented on what he perceives as violations by the Trump Administration concerning constitutional rights and basic human decency. He noted that these policies have led to decreased consumer spending levels reminiscent of those during the Great Recession. The congressman attributed this downturn to inconsistent tariffs and chaotic policymaking under Trump’s leadership (“Not only is the Trump Administration violating constitutional rights and basic human decency…”).
Mark DeSaulnier has served in Congress since replacing George Miller in 2015 after previously holding positions in both state assembly and senate roles in California.
