Mark DeSaulnier, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 10th district, shared his views on several recent political developments through social media posts. Serving in Congress since 2015, DeSaulnier has a long history in public service, including roles in the California State Assembly and Senate.
On May 22, 2025, DeSaulnier highlighted a legal victory against an attempt by former President Trump to close the Department of Education. He stated that he joined “200 of my @HouseDemocrats colleagues in challenging this in the courts,” and celebrated that “a federal judge sided with us and ordered” against the closure. “When President Trump attempted to shutter the Department of Education, which would harm countless students, teachers, and families…”
Later that day, DeSaulnier addressed a decision by the Senate regarding California’s regulatory authority over emissions. He described it as “an illegal Republican overreach,” arguing it was detrimental to public health by reverting to past environmental conditions. “The Senate’s vote this morning to end California’s authority to regulate emissions is not only an illegal Republican overreach…”
On May 23, 2025, DeSaulnier criticized Republican efforts to cut funding for Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and SNAP while providing tax breaks for wealthy donors. He expressed his commitment to opposing what he termed a “disastrous budget bill.” “It’s been a dark week in Washington, DC as my Republican colleagues voted to gut Medicaid…”
Mark DeSaulnier continues his advocacy from Concord where he resides at age 71 after graduating from College of the Holy Cross with a BA.
