Mark DeSaulnier, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 10th district since 2015, posted several updates on his social media account this week, addressing topics ranging from local sports to national policy and personal reflections.
On March 16, DeSaulnier expressed support for a local college basketball team as they entered the NCAA tournament: “Excited to root on Moraga’s own @stmarysca as they kick off their March Madness journey this Thursday. Go Gaels!”
Two days later, on March 18, he marked St. Patrick’s Day with a personal note about his family heritage: “Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I’m thinking of my mom who was always proud of her Irish heritage and values and instilled that in me.”
Later the same day, DeSaulnier addressed ongoing federal government funding issues, specifically referencing a Department of Homeland Security shutdown: “It’s been 32 days since the Republican DHS shutdown has forced tens of thousands of hardworking Americans to go without pay. To end this shutdown, House Democrats have put forth a measure that would force a vote to fund TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and other parts of the”
DeSaulnier has represented California’s 10th District in Congress since replacing George Miller in 2015. He previously served in both chambers of the California legislature and on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors from 1994 to 2006. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1952 and currently residing in Concord, DeSaulnier graduated from College of the Holy Cross with a BA in 1974.
