Mark DeSaulnier, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 10th district since 2015, posted a series of messages on his Twitter account between May 10 and May 12, 2026, addressing both personal reflections and criticisms of current national policy.
On May 10, DeSaulnier marked Mother’s Day with a tribute to mothers in his district and a personal note about his own mother: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms in CA-10 whose dedication, sacrifice, and endless love are the backbone of our community. I’m thinking, as I always do, of my own mom Virginia, and I feel lucky I had such a cheerleader and advocate who was always in my corner.”
Turning to national issues on May 12, DeSaulnier criticized economic impacts attributed to the Trump Administration: “Under the Trump Administration, the average American household is spending an additional $5,000 this year thanks to Trump tariffs, soaring gas prices because of his war with Iran, and Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill. And the President openly says he doesn’t care. America First?”
Later that day he referenced newly released military data: “New Pentagon data today confirms that Trump’s war in Iran is costing American taxpayers $4 billion more than they claimed just two weeks ago. More than 15,000 American troops are still deployed. It’s time for this war to end.”
DeSaulnier has served as California’s 10th District representative since succeeding George Miller in Congress in 2015. Before entering Congress, he held positions on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors from 1994 to 2006, served in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2008 and then in the California Senate until joining Congress.
He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1952 and currently resides in Concord.
DeSaulnier graduated from College of the Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974.
