Mark DeSaulnier, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 10th district, shared his thoughts on recent events and issues through a series of tweets on May 21, 2025. DeSaulnier has been serving in Congress since 2015 after replacing George Miller. He previously held positions in the California State Assembly, California Senate, and Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors.
On May 21, DeSaulnier expressed his sorrow over the passing of colleague Gerry Connolly. He stated: “Heartbroken to hear of the loss of my colleague Gerry Connolly, a dedicated public servant and strong voice for the Virginians he represented in Congress. I was proud to serve with him on the Oversight Committee and my thoughts are with his family and staff.”
Later that day, DeSaulnier addressed concerns regarding actions taken by the Trump Administration concerning diversity in higher education. He tweeted: “The Trump Administration’s attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education put vulnerable students at risk, including students with disabilities. At today’s @EdWorkforceDems hearing, I reiterated that every student has the right to a safe, accessible.”
In another tweet posted shortly after, DeSaulnier paid tribute to Federal Glover from Contra Costa who had recently passed away. He remarked: “Contra Costa lost a trailblazing leader this week with the passing of my friend Federal Glover. I honored him and his legacy of service to our community on the House Floor today, and I will continue to carry with me his vision for a more equitable future.”
Mark DeSaulnier was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1952 and resides in Concord. He graduated from College of the Holy Cross in 1974 with a BA.
