Mark DeSaulnier, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 10th district, shared insights on various topics through his recent tweets. DeSaulnier has been serving in Congress since 2015, succeeding George Miller. His political career includes roles in the California State Assembly and Senate, as well as the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors.
On June 12, 2025, Mark DeSaulnier welcomed Father Shaughnessy to the Capitol to serve as a guest chaplain and offer the day’s opening prayer. He noted that Father Shaughnessy is a fellow Holy Cross alumnus who has served multiple tours in Iraq as a Navy and Marine chaplain providing support to servicemembers.
The following day, on June 13, DeSaulnier expressed concern over recent events, including ICE raids in California and violence against a U.S. Senator. He also criticized preparations for what he termed a “$45 million ego parade” for the President, describing it as part of a “dark week for our country.”
Later that same day, DeSaulnier addressed actions by ICE targeting individuals in his district. He stated that he wrote to ICE demanding answers and expressed disappointment with the agency’s refusal to respect due process. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring fair treatment for all community members regardless of immigration status.
Mark DeSaulnier was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1952 and currently resides in Concord. He graduated from College of the Holy Cross with a BA in 1974.
