Homeowners in Martinez paid property taxes equal to 0.9% of their home’s value in the fourth quarter of 2025, a rate lower than the national average, BlockShopper.com reports.

Martinez’s median home sales price in the quarter stood at $729,000, based on 81 properties sold over that period. The city’s median property tax bill for 2025 was $6,338, which also amounted to 0.9% of the median taxed property value.

The national average effective property tax rate in 2024 stood at 0.888%.

Elsewhere in Contra Costa County, East Contra Costa (Unincorporated), Oakley (Unincorporated), and Crockett (Unincorporated) recorded the highest property tax rates among cities in the county.

The calculation for the 2025 effective property tax rate is based on estimated inflation factors and 2023 county tax data. Actual rates in some cases may differ somewhat due to variations in these factors.

According to Redfin data, U.S. home prices continued their upward trend in 2025, with the national median price rising to approximately $447,000 in June, marking a 1.13% increase from the previous year. The data also indicated a notable imbalance in the market, with sellers outnumbering buyers by 36%, or 508,715 homes. Redfin considers a 10% gap or less between buyers and sellers as a balanced market.
