Richmond homeowners paid property taxes equal to 1% of their property’s value during the fourth quarter of 2025, which is over 1.2 times the U.S. average, according to BlockShopper.com.

The median home in Richmond sold for $625,000 that quarter, based on sales of 197 properties. The median property tax bill citywide was $6,477 in 2025, corresponding to 1% of the median home value assessed for taxes.

Average U.S. effective property tax rate was 0.888% in 2024.

East Contra Costa (Unincorporated), Oakley (Unincorporated), and Crockett (Unincorporated) ranked as the three areas with the highest rates in Contra Costa County.
