Lafayette issued the following on Dec. 18
The Weekly Roundup Year-End Holiday Edition
It was a night of gratitude, proclamations, resolutions, gifts, and just a wee number of speeches. The annual changing of the guard at the Lafayette City Council came this past Monday evening in a joyful – and somewhat sad – evening devoted to thanking outgoing Council Members for their service to the City all of us love so much. The Council said goodbye to Mayor, Mike Anderson, who also served as Lafayette’s Mayor in 2008, 2013, 2017, and 2019, and Council Member Steven Bliss, who stepped into the seat left vacant when Council Member Mark Mitchell died in 2018. Steven honored Mark in his departing remarks. And in his remarks, Mayor Anderson looked back at the changes he’s seen in Lafayette during his long tenure. Both were praised by residents and elected officials alike during the Zoom meeting broadcast on YouTube
As new Council Members were sworn-in (you can read a profile of each here), Lafayette’s Council found that it is made up of a majority of women for the second time in its history. To top things off, Susan Candell was elected by the Council to serve as the City’s Mayor for 2021, and Teresa Gerringer was elected as Vice Mayor. It was truly a historic evening. You can watch the night’s proceedings on the City’s YouTube channel beginning here.
