HONORING THE LIFE AND SERVICE OF JOAN EVOLA BILLECI

______

HON. MARK DeSAULNIER

of california

in the house of representatives

Tuesday, August 23, 2022

Mr. DeSAULNIER. Madam Speaker, I rise today to recognize the life of Joan Evola Billeci.

Better known by friends as ``Joanie,'' Joan was born and raised in Pittsburg, California by Pearl DeMercurio and Joseph Billeci, former Mayor of Pittsburg. Joan and her husband, Nolan, were high school sweethearts and were married for 55 wonderful years.

Joan followed in her father's footsteps of public service and was involved with numerous local organizations including the St. Peter Martyr School, the Church of the Good Shepard, and the Pittsburg Boys and Girls Club. In her professional career, she served as an executive assistant in the Pittsburg Unified School District at Highlands Elementary for seventeen years.

Throughout her life, Joan demonstrated her dedication to service and passion for her community. Joan was an active volunteer with the Pittsburg Historical Society, volunteering for over two decades and serving as treasurer for nearly 20 years. In 2012, Joan's received the Community Service Lifetime Achievement Award from the Soroptimist International of Pittsburg in recognition of her service. In her free time, Joan loved traveling, spending time with family, and participating in a sewing club with her close friends.

Sadly, Joan passed away on June 6, 2022. She is survived by her husband, Nolan Evola, as well as her sister Anne Romeo, brother Mark Billeci, son Salvatore, daughter-in-law Vicki, and grandchildren Joseph and Gabriella. She will be remembered for her kind heart and dedication to service. Please join me in honoring Joan Evola for her many contributions to our community.
