HONORING THE LIFE OF NANCY KAY YOUNG PLACIER

______

HON. MARK DeSAULNIER

of california

in the house of representatives

Tuesday, August 23, 2022

Mr. DeSAULNIER. Madam Speaker, I rise today to recognize the life of long-time community member, Nancy Kay Young Placier.

Nancy was born in 1936 in Modesto, California, to Jack and Lois Young. She went on to graduate from Downey High School and later attended Stanislaus Community College. In 1963, she married Philip Placier in San Francisco, California. Later, she and Phil became adopted parents to their three children, David, Tom, and Betsy.

Throughout her life, Nancy has shown her passion for her faith and her dedication to service. For 40 years, Nancy volunteered with nonprofits such as Peralta Cancer Research Institute, Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center, and more, helping fundraise for breast cancer research and raising awareness about the disease. Nancy was also dedicated to her faith and was a member of the Presbyterian Church for 58 years, even serving as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon.

Sadly, Nancy passed away on January 18, 2022. Nancy is survived by her husband, Phil, her sons, David and Tom, her daughter, Betsy, and her grandchildren, Alex, Tyler, Michael, and Zariyah. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Please join us in honoring Nancy for her many contributions to our community.
