Mark DeSaulnier, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 10th district since 2015, took to social media expressing his concerns on various pressing issues. DeSaulnier, who has a long history of public service in California, including time in the state assembly and senate, shared his perspectives and congressional actions related to federal government adherence to laws, humanitarian concerns regarding child detention, and fiscal policies in the House of Representatives.
On April 11, 2025, DeSaulnier addressed the issue of Elon Musk's tenure as a Special Government Employee, asserting that, "By law, Elon Musk, as a Special Government Employee, must leave his position in the federal government after 130 days, on May 30th. I joined many of my colleagues in sending a letter to President Trump demanding that he follow this law and remove Musk." DeSaulnier provided a link for readers to access the full letter sent to President Trump.
Subsequently, DeSaulnier shared his views on the impact of detaining children in the United States, posting later the same day that, "It is well documented that detaining children, regardless of the length of detention, causes lasting harm, and these policies do not deter families from seeking safety in the United States. I joined my colleagues in demanding that the Trump Administration immediately halt its" detention policies.
Later that evening, DeSaulnier criticized recent budgetary moves by Republican members of the House, tweeting that, "This week House Republicans advanced their cruel and reckless budget that threatens to cut almost a trillion dollars in health care for tens of millions of Americans in order to give even more tax cuts to the super wealthy." He encouraged the public to "tune in to hear more about how House Democrats stand."
DeSaulnier has achieved a considerable political career since graduating from the College of the Holy Cross in 1974 with a BA, serving at various governmental levels including the California State Assembly, the California Senate, and the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors.
