In a tweet posted on February 12, 2025, DeSaulnier expressed support for fellow Democrat Rosa DeLauro in emphasizing Congressional authority over federal spending. He stated that "the Constitution gives Congress the sole power to control federal spending, not the Executive Branch." This was in response to what he perceives as an attempt by Elon Musk to usurp Congressional power.

Later that day, DeSaulnier voiced concerns over threats posed by President Biden and Elon Musk towards essential programs and communities. He announced plans for a town hall meeting aimed at addressing these issues: "The President and unelected billionaire & DOGE head Elon Musk have threatened programs tens of millions of Americans rely on..."
